Dickson Explains How Obi and Kwankwaso Joined NDC in Political Shake-Up

Seriake Dickson says Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso’s move into NDC was gradual, not sudden, ahead of the 2027 general elections

National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has said that the entry of Peter Obi and Rabi’u Kwankwaso into the party was the result of a long-standing political process rather than a sudden development.

Dickson made the clarification during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, where he spoke about the growing political structure of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He explained that he had worked closely with both former governors over the years, describing their alignment with the NDC as part of a broader political convergence that had been building gradually.

According to him, many Nigerians are beginning to place confidence in the NDC, adding that the party continues to attract support from influential political figures across the country.

He said the growing membership and backing from former governors and senior political actors reflect increasing trust in the party’s direction and leadership.

Dickson also expressed appreciation to supporters, noting that the confidence shown in the NDC is strengthening its position as a major political platform ahead of the next election cycle.

His remarks come amid political discussions surrounding the reported defection of Obi and Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC, reportedly due to internal divisions and legal disputes within their former party.

The former Bayelsa State governor added that the convergence of key political actors within the NDC was carefully built over time and not an abrupt realignment.
