Nigeria Declares Eid-ul-Mawlid Public Holiday on September 5

Nigeria declares Eid-ul-Mawlid holiday for September 5, 2025, urging peace, unity, and reflection on Prophet Muhammad’s virtues

The government congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora, encouraging them to emulate the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.

Nigerians of all faiths were urged to use the occasion to pray for peace, security, and national stability, supporting efforts to promote unity and development.

“The Minister of Interior wishes Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration,” the statement said.

Eid-ul-Mawlid, observed in the third month of the Islamic calendar (Rabi’ al-Awwal), commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad and is celebrated with prayers, lectures, processions, and charity.

As a public holiday, the day reflects Nigeria’s significant Muslim population and tradition of observing major Islamic festivals.

Religious leaders and government officials often use this day to call for harmony and unity, especially during ongoing security and economic challenges facing the nation.
