Rotimi Amaechi Declares 2027 Presidential Ambition on ADC Platform

Rotimi Amaechi 2027 presidential election bid confirmed as ex-minister declares ambition under ADC, vows to face Tinubu

Rotimi Amaechi 2027 presidential election bid is officially underway, as the former Rivers State Governor has declared his intention to contest under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

Speaking on Wednesday in Kano after a meeting with a coalition of traders, Amaechi confirmed he would not step down for any aspirant during the party’s primaries.

“I will contest the ADC presidential primary, and by God’s grace, I hope to win so that I can face Tinubu in 2027,” he told journalists.

“I am not stepping down for anyone. Let the people decide who they want to lead.”

The former Minister of Transportation emphasized that the ADC must prioritize internal democracy, stating that a transparent process would boost the party’s credibility and strength ahead of the general elections.

In a scathing critique of the current administration, Amaechi said Nigerians across the board were suffering under President Bola Tinubu’s government.

“No one is happy under Tinubu, not even in Rivers or across the South. People are suffering everywhere,” he said, calling attention to rising hardship and disillusionment nationwide.

He further criticized the federal government’s appointments, alleging a lack of inclusivity.

According to him, political appointments have mostly gone to individuals close to the presidency, sidelining broader regional representation.

When asked about the possibility of zoning within the ADC, Amaechi said it was up to the party leadership to decide but maintained that he would remain in the race regardless of any internal arrangement.

Amaechi, who previously served as Director-General of President Buhari’s campaign and as Minister of Transportation, positioned himself as a seasoned and prepared contender.

“If you look at all those aspiring, including Tinubu, who is better prepared than I am?” he asked.

“My candidacy offers unity because I come from the South, and we are not in conflict with any region.”

Addressing questions about his political influence in Rivers State—especially given the rising dominance of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike—Amaechi dismissed any weakening of his base.

“When I visited Rivers to inaugurate the ADC, the turnout was massive from the airport to the venue. Nobody paid for that mobilisation,” he asserted.
