Nasarawa, Angola to sign agriculture partnership agreement

Nasarawa State and Angola to sign an agriculture partnership to enhance food security, attract investment, and promote knowledge exchange on December 16, 2025

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule announced on Monday that representatives of the Angolan government will sign a partnership agreement with the state government on Tuesday to boost agriculture and promote food security.

The disclosure came during a reception for the Governor of Bengo Province, Angola, Maria Antonio Nelumba, the Angolan Ambassador to Nigeria, Jose Bamoquina Zau, and members of their delegation in Lafia, the state capital.

Governor Sule explained that the visit is intended to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between Nasarawa State and Bengo Province in sectors such as agriculture and education.

He noted that a Nasarawa delegation had visited Angola in September to explore potential partnerships, and the return visit provides an opportunity to finalise agreements for implementation.

“Our visit in September was to ensure that the agreement between our President, Bola Tinubu, and the Angolan President, João Lourenço, would translate into actionable projects.

We identified Bengo Province because of its similarity to Nasarawa in agriculture and proximity to the capital, Luanda, similar to our proximity to Abuja,” Governor Sule said.

He confirmed that the state government had secured the necessary approvals to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on December 16, 2025.

The agreement is part of efforts to internationalise Nasarawa’s economic prospects, attract foreign investment, and facilitate knowledge sharing and exchange programmes.

“Tomorrow, we will sign the agreement at 10:30 a.m., and to show our commitment to agriculture, Nasarawa State rice will officially hit the market under the brand NASACCO RICE,” Governor Sule added.

Responding, Governor Nelumba expressed appreciation for the reception and optimism that the partnership would benefit both regions.

She confirmed that the delegation had received approval from the Angolan President to sign the agreement as a follow-up to the bilateral accord between Nigeria and Angola.

“We are confident that both delegations will work together to achieve these important goals, and we hope that our cooperation will be increasingly profitable for both regions,” she said.
