APC Criticises Adeleke, Governor Defends Osun Record

APC criticises Governor Adeleke’s record as he defends Osun State achievements ahead of the August 2026 governorship election

Political tensions in Osun State have intensified ahead of the August 15 governorship election, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration while the governor’s office issued a detailed defence of its record.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Kola Olabisi, Director of Media and Information for the APC, argued that there were no compelling reasons for voters to return Governor Adeleke to office.

The party questioned his credentials and alleged governance lapses under his administration.

“There is no single reason under the sun why Governor Ademola Adeleke should not be shown the way out of the Okefia Government House through the August 15, 2026 governorship election,” the statement read.

The APC raised concerns over the governor’s educational qualifications, citing public debate on whether he meets the constitutional requirement of possessing at least a secondary school certificate.

The party also accused the administration of financial mismanagement, claiming that state revenues averaging ₦11 billion monthly over three years had not translated into commensurate development.

Other criticisms included a lack of transparency in government projects, alleged disregard for court rulings on local government and chieftaincy matters, disputes within the state judiciary, and the poor condition of the State House of Assembly complex in Osogbo.

The APC also accused the government of favouring the governor’s hometown of Ede in project distribution and appointments.

It cited the recent recruitment of 876 teachers into public schools, alleging that 88 slots were allocated to Ede and that political patronage influenced the selection process.

The state government rejected the allegations. Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, described the APC’s claims as politically motivated and inconsistent with the administration’s record.

“The statement from the Osun APC is a manifestation of its depressive political quagmire due to deepening rejection by the people,” Rasheed said.

He highlighted several government achievements, including support for cooperative societies, rural development initiatives, reconstruction of more than 200 health centres, rehabilitation of around 150 schools, and the construction of hundreds of kilometres of roads.

Rasheed added that the administration was developing major infrastructure projects, including flyovers and township road dualisation schemes, while improving workers’ welfare and reducing inherited pension liabilities.

Rasheed affirmed that Governor Adeleke remained eligible to contest the upcoming election, noting that the judiciary had addressed and validated questions regarding his qualifications.
