Kebbi Schoolgirl Abduction Sparks Urgent VP Action

The visit, directed by President Bola Tinubu, aims to meet state authorities, security chiefs, traditional leaders, and families of the abducted students.

A statement from Shettima’s spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, said the Vice President will convey the President’s condolences over the recent security breach and assure the community of a swift and safe rescue of the missing girls.

“President Tinubu has specifically instructed that the Federal Government will ensure the quick and safe release of the abducted students,” Nkwocha added.

Shettima is accompanied by key government officials, including the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Bernard Doro, the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Zubaida Umar.

The Kebbi Schoolgirl Abduction occurred during a pre-dawn raid on Monday, in which gunmen stormed the school, abducting at least 25 students and tragically killing the vice principal. One of the girls reportedly managed to escape, as security forces and local hunters intensify the search for the remaining victims.

The incident has heightened concerns over persistent banditry and insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest region. President Tinubu expressed his heartbreak over both the abduction and the simultaneous loss of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other soldiers in a separate attack in Borno State.
