Kashim Shettima Diaspora Engagement gains momentum as VP assures Nigerians abroad of inclusion in Tinubu’s policies at UNGA meeting
Kashim Shettima Diaspora Engagement took centre stage at the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, where the Vice-President assured Nigerians living abroad of a renewed and active role in national transformation.

During a gathering with members of the Nigerian community in the United States, Vice-President Shettima emphasised that President Tinubu’s government is prioritising inclusive governance and positioning Nigeria for global influence.
He urged Nigerians in the diaspora to remain optimistic, assuring them that their home country is on a steady path to prosperity under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Continue to believe in Nigeria,” Shettima said warmly. “In the fullness of time, we shall reclaim our rightful place in the comity of nations.”
The Vice-President praised the contributions of Nigerians abroad, describing them as invaluable assets.
He noted that their global experiences were critical in shaping national progress, especially in key sectors like technology, health, and agriculture.
“Our foreign reserve is crossing the $40 billion mark, sub-nationals are generating trillions in revenue, and infrastructure development is progressing rapidly,” he told the audience.
He cited the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a key example of how the government is investing in the future of its youth.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, reinforced Shettima’s message, highlighting recent policy advancements like easier passport access and remote BVN registration.
Nigerians in attendance, including AI engineer Adebimpe Daniels and healthcare specialist Saratu Garba, voiced strong support for government reforms.
They expressed readiness to invest in sectors such as fintech, creative industries, and mining.
Kashim Shettima Diaspora Engagement comes at a time when the government seeks stronger ties with citizens abroad, both in policy consultation and economic revitalisation.
