PRP Defends Donald Duke in Positive 2027 Candidate Claim

PRP Donald Duke Candidate Claim sees party defend ex-governor’s eligibility as 2027 presidential flag bearer after screening process

The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, on Thursday issued a firm PRP Donald Duke Candidate Claim, insisting that former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke met all constitutional and procedural requirements to emerge as the party’s 2027 presidential flag bearer.

The clarification was made by the National Chairman of the PRP, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he addressed concerns surrounding the selection process and Duke’s participation.

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed explained that Donald Duke formally applied to join the party and underwent all necessary screening procedures alongside other aspirants, in line with established party rules.

He stated that the party had also convened a consensus-building meeting involving three southern aspirants as part of its internal requirements for candidate selection.

According to Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Donald Duke was outside the country at the time of the meeting but participated virtually, interacted with other contestants and consented to the process, which he described as compliant with PRP regulations.

The National Chairman stressed that physical absence did not amount to a breach of party rules or etiquette, noting that participation through online engagement was sufficient for validation within the process.

He maintained that Donald Duke fulfilled every requirement expected of a PRP presidential aspirant, reinforcing the party’s position that the former governor’s candidacy remains legitimate and properly constituted.

The PRP leadership’s defence comes amid growing public scrutiny of internal party processes as political parties begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
