The nomination was announced in a statement issued late Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad.
According to the statement, the decision follows constitutional provisions under Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers a governor to nominate a replacement where a vacancy exists.
The position became vacant following the resignation of Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026.
The governor stated that the nomination was made after wide consultations with key stakeholders across the state.
He urged the State Assembly to grant prompt approval for the nominee to ensure continuity in governance.
The development now places responsibility on lawmakers to screen and confirm Garo for the position in the coming days.
