Jonathan Urges Youths to Get PVCs Amid 2027 Pressure

Jonathan urges youth PVC participation ahead of 2027, calling for active voter engagement amid growing pressure for his political comeback

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerian youths to actively participate in the electoral process by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards, as discussions intensify around the 2027 general elections.

Jonathan made the appeal in Abuja on Thursday when a large group of young Nigerians visited his residence, calling on him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Addressing the crowd, the former president stressed that civic participation remains more important than political endorsement, urging supporters to focus on voter registration and turnout.

He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address growing voter apathy across the country, warning that declining participation poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s democratic process.

Jonathan lamented that many young people who demand political leadership are often not registered voters, questioning the sincerity of widespread calls for his return to the presidential race.

“Probably 50% of you don’t even have voters card and you are asking me to go and contest the election,” he said.

The former president, who was sworn in following the death of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in 2010 and later elected in 2011, has continued to attract political speculation despite not formally declaring interest in the 2027 race.

Jonathan was defeated in the 2015 presidential election, but remains a recurring figure in discussions about possible political comebacks, especially among sections of the public advocating for experienced leadership.
