2027: Accord Rejects Claim of Endorsing Abia Governor Alex Otti

Accord denies Otti endorsement claim, dismissing reports of backing Abia Governor Alex Otti for 2027 and warning against impersonation

The Accord Party, through its National Leadership, has strongly denied endorsing Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for the 2027 gubernatorial election, describing the claim as false and misleading during a formal statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, 7 May 2026.

The clarification was issued by Accord’s spokesperson, Joseph Omorogbe, following reports that a group led by Professor Christopher Imumolen had declared support for Governor Otti’s second term ambition during a visit to Government House in Umuahia, Abia State.

The party firmly stated that it did not authorise any endorsement and insisted that the individuals involved were no longer members of the organisation, having been expelled in 2024 over alleged anti party activities.

According to the statement, the Accord leadership stressed that only its recognised National Executive Committee possesses the constitutional authority to nominate or endorse candidates for any elective position in Nigeria.

The party described the alleged endorsement as “null, void and of no effect whatsoever,” warning that non members have no mandate to speak on behalf of its leadership.

Accord further alleged that the actions of the group amounted to impersonation and political misrepresentation, accusing them of attempting to mislead the public and exploit unsuspecting political figures for personal gain.

The statement also cautioned Governor Alex Otti against engaging with individuals described as political opportunists, urging him to verify party structures through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before accepting any political declarations.

“It is obvious that non members of a political party cannot speak or act on behalf of the authentic leadership of the party,” the statement read in part, reinforcing the party’s position.

The leadership further urged journalists and the public to cross check political claims through official INEC records in order to avoid the spread of misinformation, especially during the pre election period.

Accord maintained that it remains united under its recognised leadership and is fully prepared for the forthcoming general elections, despite what it described as attempts to cause confusion within its ranks.
