Bode George accuses Wike of crossing the line after a corruption allegation, rejecting the claim and threatening legal action against the FCT minister
Chief Bode George, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees member, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, criticised Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike over allegations involving his Abuja property, accusing the minister of going beyond acceptable political criticism.

George, a former military officer and elder statesman, made the remarks while responding to Wike’s claim that his Abuja residence was purchased with funds belonging to Rivers State.
The PDP chieftain described the allegation as false and said the minister had crossed the line with the accusation.
The dispute followed comments by Wike, who labelled George the “father of corruption” and questioned the source of funds used to acquire the property.
Rejecting the claim, George said the house was privately purchased and had no connection with Rivers State resources.
“My house in Abuja was bought with funds from Rivers? How? The house was built by someone else. I bought it, and it is still there,” George said.
The PDP leader said he would pursue legal action over the allegation, insisting that public figures must be accountable for statements made against others.
George also criticised Wike’s approach to political disagreements, describing the minister’s comments as inappropriate and beneath the standards expected of someone holding a senior public office.
The former deputy national chairman of the PDP further alleged that Wike had engaged in repeated attacks against political figures and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to distance himself from individuals who engage in personal criticisms of opponents.
The allegation regarding media spending could not be independently verified.
The latest exchange adds to the growing tensions between senior PDP figures as the party continues to deal with internal disagreements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
George maintained that the PDP crisis remained unresolved despite the emergence of a presidential candidate recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that related disputes were still before the courts.

The confrontation highlights the widening divisions within the opposition party, with both George and Wike continuing to defend their political positions amid broader debates over leadership and accountability.
