Gombe ADC publicity secretary resigns as Abdulrahman Zaune steps down, fuelling speculation of a possible defection to the APC
The Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe State, Abdulrahman Buba Zaune, has resigned from the party with immediate effect, marking another high-profile exit from the opposition party ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Zaune announced his resignation in a letter dated August 5, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the ADC in Zaune Ward, Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State.
In the letter, the former state publicity secretary expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve in various capacities throughout his political career.
“I sincerely appreciate the political party for the opportunity to serve in different capacities at the local government, state and national levels. I therefore wish the party well,” Zaune wrote.
Although Gombe ADC publicity secretary resigns without stating his next political destination, the move has fuelled speculation that he may be preparing to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The resignation came less than 24 hours after the APC governorship candidate in Gombe State, Jamilu Gwamna, visited Dukku Local Government Area, Zaune’s home constituency, further intensifying speculation about a possible defection.
The development adds to growing political activity in Gombe as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Zaune’s departure also follows the recent resignation of the ADC State Secretary, Ahmed Gana, who left the party weeks earlier before joining the APC to support Gwamna’s governorship bid.
The successive exits have raised questions about the ADC’s internal strength in Gombe State as political realignments continue ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Neither Zaune nor the APC had officially confirmed any planned defection as of the time of filing this report.
