Oyo APC accuses Makinde of mismanaging state assets after Governor Seyi Makinde criticised Tinubu’s economic policies ahead of 2027
The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of mismanaging public assets, claiming that his leadership record would have raised concerns if he had been elected President of Nigeria in 2023.

The party made the allegation in response to recent comments by Makinde criticising the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and expressing confidence in defeating the President in the 2027 general election.
The Oyo APC accuses Makinde of mismanaging state assets as part of a broader political exchange between the ruling party in the state and the opposition over economic management, governance and national leadership.
In a statement signed by Wasiu Sadare, Publicity Secretary of the Oyo APC, the party argued that Nigerians made the right choice by electing Tinubu, describing the difference between Tinubu and Makinde’s leadership approaches as “the difference between heaven and earth.”
Sadare said criticism of the President’s economic decisions would not persuade Nigerians to support Makinde, whom he accused of failing to meet expectations in Oyo State.
“Gov. Makinde can afford to condemn the bold and courageous steps taken by President Bola Tinubu in 2023 as he is wont to playing to the gallery,” Sadare said.
The APC spokesman praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, arguing that international institutions and economic observers had recognised the administration’s efforts to stabilise the country and reposition Nigeria’s economy.
He further alleged that Makinde had transferred several state assets to private interests during his seven years in office, a claim the party used to question the governor’s suitability for national leadership.
“A Makinde who has transferred virtually all the assets of Oyo State to the wrong hands in exchange for cash in seven years would have sold Rivers Niger and Benue as well as the nation’s portion of the Atlantic Ocean if he had the opportunity,” Sadare alleged.
The comments followed Makinde’s remarks at the unveiling of candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where a representative of the governor said he was prepared to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 presidential contest.
Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one of Nigeria’s prominent opposition figures, has frequently criticised aspects of the Federal Government’s economic direction, particularly the impact of reforms on households and businesses.

The latest exchange reflects growing political tension ahead of the 2027 election cycle, with major parties increasingly positioning their records on economic management, public welfare and governance as key issues for voters.
