Gwarzo Challenges Kano Gov Yusuf Over Fund Diversion Claims

Gwarzo, NDC governorship candidate in Kano State, has challenged Governor Abba Yusuf to provide concrete evidence of claims that funds were diverted from local government councils through his son

Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the Nigerian Democratic Congress governorship candidate and former Deputy Governor of Kano State, challenged Governor Abba Yusuf to produce credible evidence backing allegations that funds from local government councils were diverted through his son, Mujahid Aminu Abdussalam.

The challenge came in direct response to claims made by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who accused Gwarzo of receiving diverted local government funds via his son.

In a strongly worded statement issued by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Gwarzo dismissed the allegations as “unfounded, outrageous, and a completely absurd effort to damage his well-established integrity.”

“These allegations are simply products of the Governor’s imagination and lack any factual basis,” the statement read. “We therefore firmly challenge the accuser to present credible and verifiable evidence to support these malicious claims. Mere accusations, regardless of how frequently they are repeated in the media, do not constitute proof.”

Gwarzo, who served as Deputy Governor under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, maintained that throughout his public service career he has upheld the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.

He urged the public to disregard what he described as baseless and politically motivated attacks aimed at tarnishing his reputation ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The exchange highlights the growing political tension in Kano as different parties position themselves for the next electoral cycle.

Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party has been locked in a series of running battles with opposition figures since assuming office.

Political analysts see the latest accusation and counter-challenge as part of the early manoeuvring that typically intensifies in Kano’s highly competitive political environment, where control of local government funds often becomes a major campaign issue.

Gwarzo’s NDC is positioning itself as a credible third force in the state, promising better governance and an end to what it calls recycled leadership.

The party has recently been active in several states, attempting to build structures and attract defectors from the ruling APC and main opposition PDP.

As the war of words continues, observers are watching to see whether Governor Yusuf’s camp will respond with any documentary evidence or if the matter will remain at the level of claims and counter-claims.
