NDC Dismisses Fake 2027 Candidate Lists as Mischief

Nigerian Democratic Congress has dismissed widely circulating lists of 2027 candidates as fake. The party confirms it has already submitted authentic candidate lists to INEC and is investigating the source of the fabrications

The Nigerian Democratic Congress firmly dismissed lists of purported 2027 election candidates currently circulating on social media, describing them as fake and the handiwork of mischief makers bent on causing confusion within the party.

Bar. Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, National Secretary of the NDC, issued a strongly worded statement warning members in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other states to disregard the lists, which he said did not emanate from the party’s national headquarters.

“Our party has since submitted the lists of authentic candidates that will fly our party’s flag to the Independent National Electoral Commission using the appropriate channel as approved by the Electoral Act,” the statement read.

The NDC said the fake lists were being peddled by individuals who do not wish the party well.

It revealed that the party leadership has begun a thorough investigation to identify the sources of the fabrications and leakages, which it believes are designed to create ill will and distractions.

“This is to reassure our members that the NDC is robustly committed to building a party that would serve as a vehicle to liberate Nigeria from its present parlous state with the cooperation of everyone,” the statement added.

The clarification comes shortly after the party directed all its public office-seeking members to sign a Memorandum of Understanding known as an anti-defection document.

The legal instrument commits candidates to vacate any elected position they win if they decide to leave the NDC after securing victory.

Political observers view the move as an attempt by the relatively new party to instil discipline and prevent the kind of defections that have plagued many Nigerian political parties after successful elections.

The NDC’s swift response is aimed at maintaining unity and focus as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Party leaders are positioning the NDC as a credible alternative capable of challenging the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

As the political season gathers momentum, the party urged its supporters to remain vigilant and rely only on official communications from its national secretariat.
