Two years into his tenure, the former labour leader emphasises that his administration’s priority has been service delivery over political posturing.
In an exclusive interview with Vanguard, Governor Idris outlined several achievements: the renovation of over 2,000 primary and secondary schools; recruitment of thousands of qualified teachers; implementation of one of the highest minimum wages in the North; and major investments in agriculture, industrialisation, health, infrastructure and security.
His transformation drive has also ensured no outstanding salaries, pensions, or teacher benefits are owed.
On education, Governor Idris declared a state of emergency, forming a committee whose recommendations he fast‑tracked.
Schools were refurbished, new ones constructed, and instructional materials supplied.
Teachers’ welfare saw boosts through extended service years and retirement age, as well as higher remuneration.
Agriculture has also received a fresh wave of innovation. Free fertilisers, mechanised tools (tillers, pumps), and food distributions have been made across farming communities.
Infrastructure improvements include roads to ease movement of produce, rehabilitation of health centres, and upgraded tertiary facilities.
Governor Idris says restoration of peace and security has been fundamental. Communities displaced by insecurity have begun returning; state support for security agencies and local vigilante efforts has helped reduce incidents.
When asked about politics ahead of the 2027 elections, Idris insisted that his record would speak for itself.
