Delta PDP firmly dismisses leadership vacuum claims

Delta PDP leadership vacuum dismissed by party leaders, who cite Supreme Court ruling and affirm unity ahead of 2027 elections in Delta State

WARRI, Delta State, Nigeria, 1 May 2026: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State on Friday, 1 May 2026, firmly dismissed claims of a leadership vacuum within its ranks, as the party moved to reassure members and the public amid ongoing internal political debates in Warri.

The State Publicity Secretary, Chief Kingsley Akpos Oturubo, issued the clarification in a statement, urging the public to disregard what he described as misleading narratives surrounding the Delta PDP leadership vacuum.

He insisted that the party remains stable, functional, and legally constituted despite recent speculation.

Chief Kingsley Akpos Oturubo called on aspirants preparing for the 2027 general elections under the party’s platform to continue their political activities without fear or uncertainty, stressing that the PDP structure in Delta State remains intact and operational.

He reaffirmed that the leadership of the party, which he attributed to Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, has been validated by a recent judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which he said settled lingering disputes over the party’s national structure.

According to him, the ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria has effectively ended what he termed a prolonged leadership crisis affecting the party nationwide.

Oturubo also referenced the party’s internal disciplinary and reconciliation processes, noting that earlier suspensions within the National Working Committee had expired and were not extended, leading to reintegration steps within the party structure.

He further stated that leadership organs recognised by the party align with records available through the Independent National Electoral Commission portal.

Addressing concerns over factional claims, he dismissed groups allegedly parading themselves as alternative leadership structures, insisting that such entities are not recognised within the official framework of the PDP.

He maintained that the party’s governance organs remain properly constituted and unified.

The Delta PDP spokesperson also declared confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, stating that it intends to contest and win key positions, including the governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly seats in the 2027 elections.

Oturubo acknowledged that the party had faced internal disagreements in the past but insisted those issues had been resolved following recent judicial pronouncements.

He described the Supreme Court ruling delivered on 30 April 2026 as decisive in clarifying the party’s leadership structure and ending what he called an “internecine crisis”.
