Babachir Lawal says he may vote for Omoyele Sowore in 2027 after ruling out major political parties and presidential blocs

Lawal made the remarks during an interview with TVC following his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he spoke about his current political stance ahead of the next general election.
He stated that he had distanced himself from the All Progressives Congress (APC), ADC, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), saying none of the parties currently inspire his confidence.
His comments also appeared to dismiss the possibility of supporting leading political figures such as President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, or any potential coalition involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Lawal said he found the current political options unconvincing, adding that none of the major actors meet his expectations for leadership direction.
He said: “I found myself between the devil and the devil. Whatever I choose, I end up with the devil, meaning that as bad as Bola Tinubu is now, Atiku will be a worse president.”
Despite his criticism of key political figures, Lawal clarified that he was not formally endorsing any candidate at this stage.
He said: “It doesn’t mean I have to support anybody. I have retired from politics; I am not canvassing for anybody.”
He, however, admitted that he would still exercise his voting rights in the 2027 election and left open the possibility of backing Sowore or other emerging candidates.
“I might even vote for Sowore; there are other guys coming up who I believe would handle Nigeria better,” he added.
Lawal also reiterated that he had ruled out support for the major political parties he previously mentioned.

He recently resigned from the ADC, alleging irregularities in the party’s presidential primary process, claims which the party has denied.
