Adamawa PDP dismisses fears over Atiku’s exit from PDP, says it won’t impact 2027 elections due to strong grassroots support and party structure
The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly stated that the Atiku exit PDP development will not impact its strength or success in the upcoming 2027 general elections, asserting the party’s enduring popularity and robust grassroots structure across the state.

Speaking exclusively to Arewa PUNCH, the state organising secretary, Hamza Madagali, confirmed that out of over 286 executives at the local government and ward levels, only three defected with the former Vice President to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“The Jada Local Government PDP chairman, the women leader, and one ward executive member were the only ones who joined Atiku,” Madagali said.
Madagali emphasized that PDP is deeply rooted in the state, describing it as an “institution” that cannot be dismantled by one individual.
“Adamawa PDP shares have been over-subscribed by the people. Collapsing such a great institution is not an individual task,” he added.
Similarly, Luka Tizhe Tumba, a chieftain from Michika LGA—the largest in the state—welcomed Atiku’s departure, calling it a “prayer answered.”
“He had been an obstacle to the party, especially during elections. The people haven’t seen his benefit since he was Vice President,” Tumba said.
He further asserted that only Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s exit could cause significant disruption in the party, describing other political figures as “commanders without troops.”
The state PDP chairman, Barr. Tahir Shehu, also brushed aside concerns, affirming that PDP remains dominant in Adamawa.
“Atiku himself emerged governor in 1999 under PDP before becoming Vice President. Adamawa is the home state of the PDP.”
He recalled the party’s brief setback in 2015 during President Jonathan’s era but emphasized its resurgence in 2019.

“After that crisis, we reclaimed our mandate. Under Governor Fintiri, we are stronger than ever and can’t be challenged in 2027,” he concluded.
