Governor Bago made the announcement on Tuesday at the Government House in Minna, where he confirmed that Garba would accompany him as the state prepares for the next governorship contest.

The decision means the Bago Retains Yakubu Garba announcement keeps the current leadership partnership intact as the administration moves towards the 2027 election cycle.

“According to the provision of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, when the governor is to submit a nomination to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, he shall nominate a deputy governor,” Bago said.

“In the last few months, a lot of things have been in the air. So, I have called you to come and witness that my Deputy, Yakubu Garba, is still my running mate in 2027,” he added.

Yakubu Garba, a retired civil servant and politician from Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, has served as deputy governor since May 29, 2023.

Before becoming deputy governor, Garba represented Shiroro Constituency in the Niger State House of Assembly, where he held various leadership positions during his legislative career.

He also built experience within the state civil service, serving in different capacities before joining active politics.
