APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, said on Monday that ongoing discussions aim to resolve the matter internally, underscoring the party’s unique mechanisms for managing leadership disputes.
“Are you hearing anything about the impeachment of Rivers State Governor Fubara again? We are discussing with the lawmakers because that is an internal party issue. That is why the APC is different from any other party; we have a lot of mechanisms for resolving our internal issues,” Yilwatda stated.
The impeachment attempts have come after lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, and Minister of the FCT, tried on three occasions to remove Fubara from office.
However, these moves were blocked by President Bola Tinubu.
In a strategic political maneuver, the lawmakers switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC, with Governor Fubara following suit, securing his position under the ruling party’s umbrella.
The APC chairman’s comments have sparked reactions online, with some Nigerians praising the party’s internal dispute resolution, while others expressed concerns over power dynamics and party influence in resolving political crises.
Meanwhile, Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi Sule had earlier dismissed concerns over the impeachment, noting that legal processes govern the ongoing situation and urging calm among APC governors.
