Alia Had No Structure, Won Because of Akume – Aondoakaa

Aondoakaa says Gov Alia lacked structure and emerged through Akume’s political backing in Benue

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa, SAN, has said that Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia would not have emerged victorious without the political backing of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Aondoakaa stated that the political structure led by Akume played a decisive role in Alia’s emergence, stressing that the governor, a Catholic priest, did not have an independent party structure before the election.

He emphasised the importance of party discipline, loyalty and respect for decisions of the National Executive Committee (NEC), noting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) operates as an organised political institution nationwide.

According to him, Benue State cannot function outside established party processes, warning that internal disputes should not be allowed to undermine the party’s electoral prospects.

“It will be state fight with a group that produced the governor, and the group that actually produced the current governor is Senator George Akume,” Aondoakaa said.

He added that Akume’s political bloc, which he noted had two senators and nine House of Representatives members, was instrumental in securing victory for Alia during the party primaries and the general election.
