Ali Ndume insurgency insider collaboration warning as senator says local insiders aid attacks in Nigeria’s North-East crisis
Borno South Senator Ali Ndume has issued a stark warning over the ongoing insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East, insisting that attacks by armed groups are often enabled by Ali Ndume insurgency insider collaboration warning dynamics involving local actors within affected communities.

The lawmaker aligned with remarks attributed to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, stressing that the crisis persists partly because of internal collaboration that allows armed groups to infiltrate communities.
Ndume maintained that many of those involved in attacks originate from the same localities they target, making the threat more complex and harder to eliminate.
He called for greater community responsibility and vigilance, arguing that stronger local resistance and awareness could significantly reduce the frequency of attacks.
According to him, insurgents often exploit weak security environments, relying on familiarity with local terrain and the assistance of insiders to carry out operations.
In a blunt assessment, Ndume suggested that communities must become more proactive in defending themselves, adding that attackers are often identifiable and not as formidable as widely perceived, apart from their access to firearms.
His comments come amid renewed national debate over security challenges in the North-East, where insurgent activity continues to displace residents and disrupt livelihoods despite ongoing military operations.
Security analysts have long warned that local collaboration remains a critical factor in sustaining insurgent networks, making intelligence gathering and community engagement essential components of counterterrorism efforts.
