In a statement released over the weekend, Opara applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission for upholding electoral integrity by excluding all candidates submitted by Julius Abure and his expired National Working Committee (NWC).
According to her, the decision aligns with a Supreme Court ruling that confirmed the expiration of Abure’s tenure on June 8, 2023.
“None of the primaries conducted by Abure’s faction were monitored by INEC, which is a constitutional requirement,” she said. “Therefore, his submissions are null and void.”
INEC disqualifies Abure candidates because their selection processes violated legal norms.
Opara emphasized that the move sends a strong message against circumventing due process in Nigeria’s electoral system.
