Senator John James Udoedehe, who addressed journalists at a press conference in Uyo, said the socio-economic conditions in Akwa Ibom State had worsened despite what he described as significant financial inflows to successive administrations.
The governorship aspirant stated that he was fully prepared to lead efforts aimed at wealth creation, job opportunities and reducing the widening gap between the rich and the poor in the state.
Udoedehe expressed concern over what he described as persistent hardship among residents, arguing that governance had not adequately addressed key development challenges affecting ordinary citizens.
He referenced past and present administrations in Akwa Ibom, insisting that increased budgetary allocations had not translated into improved living standards for the majority of the population.
According to him, effective governance must prioritise poverty reduction, employment generation and social equity, warning that failure in these areas reflects poor leadership outcomes.
The ADC governorship aspirant also defended his political record, stating that his involvement in electoral contests had been limited and driven by commitment rather than personal ambition.
He dismissed claims that he is a serial aspirant, arguing that his previous political engagements were guided by conviction and long-standing concern for the state’s development.
Udoedehe further expressed confidence in the ability of the African Democratic Congress to compete effectively in Akwa Ibom State, citing grassroots mobilisation and political restructuring as key strengths.
He pointed to past electoral successes in other states as evidence that repeated attempts could eventually yield victory, expressing optimism about his chances in the 2027 governorship election.
The former APC national secretary also rejected allegations suggesting ulterior motives behind his candidacy, insisting that his ambition is rooted in service and not personal gain.
He maintained that he has endured political challenges and personal sacrifices in pursuit of public service, adding that he remains committed to offering what he described as people-centred leadership if elected governor.
