The APC presidential primary 2026 will be conducted using a direct primary system, allowing all registered party members across the country to participate in the exercise.
According to a document issued by the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the primary election will take place simultaneously across 8,809 wards nationwide, marking one of the most extensive internal party exercises in recent years.
The party explained that state coordinators and collation officers will oversee the conduct of the exercise in each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
They are expected to supervise the collation of results from local government levels before presenting them to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja.
The document further stated that the appointed coordinators will play a central role in ensuring order, transparency and compliance with the party’s internal electoral guidelines throughout the process.
It also referenced the APC’s established procedures for direct and consensus primaries, noting that the rules previously submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission will apply to the exercise.
The National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, signed the directive outlining the structure and operational framework for the presidential primary election.
Party officials said the arrangement is intended to strengthen internal democracy and improve coordination ahead of the 2026 electoral process.
