Davido Osun election social media activity drew criticism from the Presidency, which said such comments would not be tolerated in Rwanda or Ethiopia
The Presidency has stated that Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, would not be able to make the kind of comments he posted during the Osun State governorship election if he were in Rwanda or Ethiopia.

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, made the remarks during an interview on Symfoni TV.
He was responding to Davido’s use of social media in the build-up to and during the election held on 15 August 2026.
Ajayi accused the singer of actively campaigning for his uncle, the incumbent governor and eventual winner, Ademola Adeleke.
He said Davido held a position in the campaign structure and that his posts were partisan rather than expressions of concern for the people of Osun State.
“Davido was an active participant in the process. He went all out for his uncle to win the election,” Ajayi said. “All his tweets, all his activities were partisan. He wanted his uncle to win.”
He acknowledged that Nigeria’s democratic system allows freedom of speech on social media.
However, he argued that similar statements would not be permitted in countries such as Rwanda or Ethiopia without evidence.
“Davido can’t dare say or tweet all of those things in countries like Rwanda or Ethiopia. He will be picked up to come and provide evidence. You don’t make reckless claims that you don’t have evidence of. These things are capable of inciting the public into violence,” Ajayi added.
