Oguntoyinbo, who had been actively involved in the race for the PDP governorship ticket, submitted his resignation in a letter addressed to the Oyo State PDP chairman, marking a significant political development in the state’s pre election landscape.
In the correspondence, the former aspirant stated that his decision followed extensive consultations and careful reflection on his political direction, particularly in relation to his long term ambition and leadership vision.
The development comes as a setback for the Peoples Democratic Party, which has continued to grapple with internal disputes and leadership tensions across several states.
Oguntoyinbo explained that the persistent crisis within the party had made it increasingly difficult for him to continue pursuing his ambition under its structure.
“I am writing to officially notify you of my decision to resign from the membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately,” he wrote.
He further stated that his move was guided by a commitment to unity, progress and sustainable leadership, adding that he remains determined to continue his political journey under a different platform.
The resignation is already generating political reactions within Oyo State, where party stakeholders are assessing its potential impact on emerging alliances ahead of the next governorship contest.
Analysts suggest that Oguntoyinbo’s exit could reshape early calculations within the PDP as aspirants and power blocs reposition themselves in what is expected to be a highly competitive race.
