Abia Govt Seals Tinubu RHP Office over Tax Violation

Abia Govt seals Tinubu office in Umuahia over alleged tax law violations, prompting questions from Renewed Hope Partners officials

The Abia State Government on Tuesday sealed the campaign office of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Partners in Umuahia, citing an alleged breach of the state’s tax law.

The closure followed an enforcement action by officials of the Ministry of Lands and Housing at the Ojike Street property.

The Renewed Hope Partners, promoted in the South East by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu, serves as a regional mobilisation structure for the President.

An official of the organisation, who declined to be named, said he arrived for work to discover that the building had been shut without prior notice.

A notice pasted on the walls by the Ministry stated that the premises were in contravention of Sections 41 and 100 of the Abia State Tax Law, Codification and Consolidation, Law No. 7 of 2020.

The notice warned that any attempt by the owner, occupants or passers-by to unseal the building would constitute a further breach of the law.

Attempts to contact the phone numbers listed on the ministry’s enforcement document were unsuccessful, as the lines were unavailable at the time of filing this report.

The sealing of the facility has raised questions among political observers, given the prominence of the organisation and its links to federal leadership.
