Kwara Church Attack Sparks Urgent Security Call

Kwara Church Attack prompts Governor AbdulRazaq to call for urgent reinforcement of security in Eruku and support for local security operatives.

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has urged immediate reinforcement of security in the Ekiti Local Government Area following a deadly Kwara Church Attack at the Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku branch.

The call comes after gunmen launched a violent assault on worshippers during a special service on Tuesday evening.

A statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, confirmed that AbdulRazaq requested the deployment of additional security operatives to support existing personnel in the area.

“The Governor has sought immediate deployment of more security operatives to support the existing security architecture in the area,” the statement read.

During the attack, three worshippers were killed on the spot, while the pastor and several congregants were reportedly abducted into the bush. Residents said the gunmen escaped through bush paths leading to neighbouring Kogi State.

Earlier the same evening, another group ambushed travellers along the Ilorin–Kabba Road, causing panic and forcing many to flee into nearby bushes.

Police confirmed the incident as an “attempted bandit attack,” with two victims fatally wounded and a vigilante sustaining gunshot injuries. PPRO Adetohun Ejire-Adeyemi stated that swift response from the Divisional Police Officer and local vigilantes forced the attackers to flee into the bush.

Governor AbdulRazaq condemned the “unconscionable attack” and expressed sympathy for the affected families.

He also commended President Bola Tinubu for deploying 900 additional troops to Kwara, noting that the reinforcement is expected to strengthen security in the state.
