The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused the SUBEB boss of ordering teachers, including the Vice Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Amule, to sweep the school compound during his inspection on Monday. The alleged directive, carried out in the presence of students, has sparked widespread criticism and public debate across the state.
In a statement signed by the PDP’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, on Tuesday night, the party said it was “deeply outraged” by the incident, describing it as an abuse of office and a public degradation of teachers.
Eyewitnesses claimed Adaramaja acted on the instruction of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq after accusing the teachers of maintaining an untidy environment.
The PDP questioned whether this was “the new standard for the teaching profession in Kwara,” insisting that teachers deserve respect, not ridicule.
“A Professor who once taught should know the value of dignity in education,” the statement read, accusing the SUBEB chairman of “arrogance, insensitivity, and moral bankruptcy.”
The opposition party said the incident reflects “a growing culture of oppression” under the AbdulRazaq administration, adding that many schools remain in poor condition despite the governor’s years in office.
It called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers to defend its members and demanded an immediate apology from Adaramaja.
“Adaramaja must issue a public apology to the teachers of GDSS Amule and to the entire teaching community in Kwara,” the PDP stated, urging Governor AbdulRazaq to condemn the act and impose sanctions if necessary.
However, in response, Professor Adaramaja dismissed the allegations as “falsehood and political propaganda.” Speaking to PUNCH Online in Ilorin on Wednesday, he said cleanliness and orderliness were essential parts of a conducive learning environment.
“What happened at GDSS Amule was a simple reminder that teachers must lead by example in instilling discipline among students, not an act of humiliation,” Adaramaja said. He maintained that his actions were guided by responsibility and service, not pride or abuse of authority.
