Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Goodluck Jonathan, 2027 Presidency Rumour Dismissed

Ezenwo Nyesom Wike and Goodluck Jonathan 2027 Presidency rumour dismissed as the FCT Minister denies any talks with the former President over a possible political comeback.

Ezenwo Nyesom Wike and Goodluck Jonathan 2027 Presidency speculation has been firmly dismissed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who denied any discussions with former President Goodluck Jonathan about a potential return to power.

Speaking during a live media parley with journalists on TVC on Friday, Wike described reports linking him to Jonathan’s alleged comeback plans as unfounded and misleading.

“Jonathan has never told me. He has never called me one day to say, ‘look, I’m being pressured to run,’” Wike said, stressing that the former leader had not sought his opinion or support regarding any 2027 political ambitions.

He cautioned the public against relying on unverified media reports, citing examples of previous false claims. “I will not assume something is correct just because it appears on the page of some newspaper,” he added pointedly.

A recent report by The PUNCH suggested that Jonathan was facing pressure from political stakeholders to drop the idea of contesting for the presidency in 2027 and instead back the current administration.

The rumour has since triggered debates within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dividing opinions across the country’s geopolitical zones.

Wike, however, dismissed any involvement, reiterating that Jonathan’s alleged political move had never been discussed with him.

The FCT Minister also reacted to speculation that Tanimu Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties, had become PDP chairman. “I don’t know about Tanimu Turaki becoming chairman. Maybe he’s chairman for another faction. It’s not the PDP I know,” he remarked.

Addressing ongoing rifts within the PDP, the former Rivers State governor accused some party governors of excluding major stakeholders from key decisions, warning that such behaviour could destroy the party.

“Have I not said before that the booby trap you are setting will consume you? The way these present governors are doing, they will bury this party,” he said.

Wike, who governed Rivers State from 2015 to 2023 before joining President Tinubu’s cabinet, insisted that his influence and contributions to the PDP warranted continued involvement in internal consultations.

“Are you telling me that because I’m not a governor, you go and hold PDP meetings, call them stakeholders, and then exclude me—and you want to survive? Certainly not,” he said.

The Wike Jonathan 2027 Presidency speculation appears to have deepened divisions within the PDP, as Wike continues to challenge the current leadership’s approach to party management and decision-making.
