The wike amaechi wife scandal has sparked emotional outrage from the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following explosive claims by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike, during a live television programme on Friday, alleged that Dame Judith Amaechi, wife of the former Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, received N48 billion from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for women empowerment projects, accusing the former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, of shielding her.
In a swift and fiery response, Darlington Nwauju, the State APC Publicity Secretary loyal to Amaechi, dismissed the accusations as political theatre.
He challenged Wike to initiate the release of the NDDC audit report to prove his allegations, arguing that the claims serve only to distract from the controversies surrounding Wike himself.
“We empathise with Nigerians who have been entertained twice in 48 hours with a cocktail of lies, half-truths and the usual doublespeak,” Nwauju wrote in a strongly worded statement.
“The latest being the declaration by FCT Minister Wike that he will resign his position if the NDDC audit report is released without indicting Dame Judith Amaechi.”
The controversy has ignited fresh tension within the ruling party, as political factions realign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike, once a prominent figure in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been criticised by many within the APC for sowing discord while attempting to assert control in Rivers politics.
Nwauju accused Wike of using salacious claims to stay politically relevant and warned that involving people’s families in political feuds reflects poorly on his character. “This goes to tell so much of his personality traits.
The shame of dragging other people’s wives into the political arena while clothing himself with a feeling of self-importance confirms the fact that Minister Wike has no respect for family values,” he wrote.
The statement went further, linking Wike’s behaviour to a wider pattern of personal attacks. “This is symptomatic of his light esteem for womanhood and absolute disrespect for his own wife,” Nwauju added, indicating that Wike’s remarks reveal deeper personal failings.
Nwauju reiterated the APC’s challenge to Wike to ensure the NDDC audit report is made public.
“We challenge Minister Wike to instigate the publication of the NDDC Audit Report for Nigerians to see and read for themselves,” he said.
He also called for the inclusion of all awards and cash disbursements allegedly made to Wike’s associates during his time as Rivers Governor.
A political analyst based in Port Harcourt, who asked not to be named, commented that this feud underscores growing internal divisions within the APC.
“The APC in Rivers is deeply fractured. What you’re seeing is an open power struggle,” he said. “Wike’s presence in the party has not helped ease those tensions.”
The APC spokesperson also criticised what he called Wike’s orchestrated control of the NDDC through selected political allies.
“We are more interested in the so-called NDDC audit report, which was ab initio a choreographed show targeted at scaring away other Niger Delta stakeholders from the Commission while solely micromanaging it,” Nwauju said.
He urged that Nigerians should revisit the public hearings on NDDC affairs that took place in June and July of 2020, documents from which are reportedly still archived in the National Assembly.
In a sarcastic twist, Nwauju proposed that the national APC leadership appoint Wike as the party’s spokesperson or even its 2027 presidential campaign director.
“Let these roles test his popularity and confirm if he is a moral burden on APC Nigeria or not,” he concluded.
