House of Representatives Bye-Election 2025 sees three new lawmakers sworn in after wins in Kaduna, Jigawa, and Edo. Two members yet to take oath.
House of Representatives Bye-Election 2025 ushered in three new members on Tuesday, following their victories in the August 16 polls held to fill vacant seats caused by deaths and a political nomination.

Speaker Abbas Tajudeen administered the oath of office to Omosede Igbinedion (Edo), Joseph Bagudu (Kaduna), and Mukhtar Rabiu (Jigawa) during a plenary session at the National Assembly in Abuja.
The seats were declared vacant after the unfortunate deaths of four lawmakers in 2024 and 2025, as well as the selection of Dennis Idahosa as the deputy governorship candidate for Edo State in 2024.
Out of the five seats contested in the bye-elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured four, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claimed one.
However, two winners — Elegbeji Ayola (Ogun) and Oyekunle Sunday (Oyo) — were absent from the swearing-in. No official reason was provided for their non-appearance.
Mr Sunday remains the sole PDP lawmaker among the newly elected members.
The House had lost prominent lawmakers including Ekene Adams (Kaduna), Isa Dogonyaro (Jigawa), Olaide Akinremi (Oyo), and Oriyomi Onanuga (Ogun), leading to the August polls conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The swearing-in marks a critical step in restoring full legislative representation for the affected constituencies and reinforces the importance of democratic continuity.
