Nigeria Democratic Congress Formation was highlighted by Jega as a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape, noting that Dickson’s decision to remain in opposition rather than join the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, sets him apart from many politicians who often switch allegiances.
Jega said the new party had already begun attracting considerable attention and support within a short period, suggesting that it could emerge as one of the country’s major political platforms.
According to the analyst, it is common for politicians leaving opposition parties to join the APC due to its perceived organisational strength and financial capacity, but he praised Dickson for choosing a different path.
He described the decision to build a new opposition structure as courageous, stressing that it reflects a commitment to political diversity and democratic balance.
Jega also noted that Dickson had succeeded in persuading several individuals to join the new platform, helping to strengthen its early foundation.
In a notable remark, he emphasised that democracy cannot function effectively without a strong opposition, adding that the emergence of the Nigeria Democratic Congress Formation contributes to that principle.

Political observers say the development could reshape opposition dynamics ahead of future elections, depending on the party’s ability to sustain momentum and expand its base.
