Atiku’s political defections have drawn harsh criticism from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who described the former Vice-President’s multiple party switches as signs of desperation
Atiku’s political defections have ignited sharp criticism from Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, who labeled the former Vice-President’s serial party switches as both desperate and embarrassing.

Speaking during a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike questioned the credibility of a political figure who has shifted between nearly all major Nigerian parties in a quest for the presidency.
“Atiku was in the PDP in 1999, then he joined AC, went back to PDP, moved to APC, and returned again to PDP. Now he’s in the ADC,” Wike remarked.
The minister didn’t hold back, saying, “If I were his son, I would sit him down and say: ‘Dad, how can you keep hopping parties at almost 80?’”
Wike dismissed Atiku’s recent move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as political survival, not strategy.
He claimed the coalition against President Tinubu is driven by Atiku’s fading prospects within the PDP.

The criticism underscores a growing fracture within Nigeria’s opposition camp ahead of the 2027 elections.
