Tinubu Shettima 2027 tensions are escalating as former Northern Elders Forum spokesperson, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, publicly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s silence on widespread rumours of replacing Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Baba-Ahmed, who recently resigned as Special Adviser on Political Affairs in the VP’s office, said the speculations surrounding Shettima’s possible removal deserved a firm and public dismissal by the president himself.
“There is growing noise about dropping Shettima,” Baba-Ahmed stated during an interview on Channels Television.
“It would have taken the president just one sentence to end the rumours—something clear, personal, and direct. But he hasn’t.”
Speculation around Shettima’s future intensified after a chaotic All Progressives Congress (APC) summit in Gombe, where Tinubu was endorsed for a second term—without any mention of Shettima.
Despite presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga dismissing the rumours as “a non-issue,” Baba-Ahmed insisted the president’s silence was damaging.
He stressed the need for Tinubu to reassure Nigerians and the political class that he stands firmly behind his deputy.
“I would expect him to say, ‘I have confidence in my vice president. I work well with him. Let’s stop the nonsense.’ But that hasn’t happened, and it’s worrying,” Baba-Ahmed emphasized.
He warned that continued silence could fuel political instability and erode trust within the administration.
