Tinubu FCT 2027 election: Wike says defeating President Bola Tinubu in Abuja will be extremely difficult due to ongoing development
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that it would be extremely difficult for any opposition candidate to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the Federal Capital Territory during the 2027 general election.

Wike made the assertion on Tuesday in Abuja while inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in satellite communities across the capital, linking the administration’s development efforts to growing public approval.
According to him, the Tinubu-led government’s focus on expanding infrastructure beyond the city centre has significantly improved living standards, which he believes will translate into strong electoral support.
“It will be very hard for anyone to defeat the president in the FCT,” Wike said.
The 2023 presidential election saw Labour Party candidate Peter Obi win the FCT, where he polled 281,717 votes against Tinubu’s 90,902 votes, while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party finished third with 74,199 votes.
However, Wike argued that the current administration has shifted development priorities towards satellite towns, noting that areas such as Kuje are now more accessible, with improved road networks reducing travel time into the city.
He said the government’s strategy is designed to enhance economic activity and improve living conditions across Abuja’s wider communities.
“With these improvements, economic activities will grow, and the quality of life will get better,” he added.
