Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke Rejects Election Rigging Fears, insisting no one can manipulate the August 15 governorship election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has dismissed concerns over the integrity of the forthcoming August 15 governorship election, declaring that no individual or political group would be able to manipulate the outcome.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Oke-Ila, Ifedayo Local Government Area, Governor Adeleke urged residents to participate in the poll and safeguard their votes, expressing confidence that the electoral process would reflect the will of the people.

Governor Adeleke made the remarks amid heightened political activity as parties intensify campaigns ahead of the governorship contest.

The election is expected to be closely watched, with security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission facing renewed calls to ensure a peaceful and credible process.

According to a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke rejected suggestions that the election could be rigged, insisting that Osun voters would determine the outcome.

“I heard some politicians vowing to steal the votes. Where and how? Osun votes are untouchable. This is Osun State, the heart of Yoruba nation. Nobody can rig us out here,” Governor Adeleke said.

Governor Adeleke also appealed to supporters to remain peaceful while protecting the sanctity of the ballot, saying every lawful vote would count.

“The people’s votes will be defended. Their will on August 15 will become a reality. Osun people are not scared. Osun people are not cowards. They will vote and defend their votes,” Governor Adeleke added.

Highlighting his administration’s record, Governor Adeleke argued that the achievements of the state government would strengthen his bid for another term.

“Our records speak for us,” Governor Adeleke said.

The campaign rally formed part of the governor’s outreach across communities ahead of the election, with party leaders using the event to mobilise supporters and reinforce confidence in the electoral process.

The gathering also reflected the growing momentum of campaign activities as candidates seek to consolidate support before polling day.

The August 15 governorship election comes four years after Governor Adeleke secured victory in the 2022 contest, ending more than a decade of rule by the opposition in Osun State.

Since then, political competition between the state’s major parties has remained intense, with both sides expressing confidence of success while urging their supporters to remain vigilant.

Governor Adeleke’s comments are likely to add to the national conversation on electoral integrity, a recurring issue in Nigerian politics.
