VIDEO: Tinubu Threatens to Sack Wike Over FCT Election

Video resurfaces showing Tinubu’s threat to sack Wike if APC lost FCT area council elections, sparking praise and debate online

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was captured in a resurfaced video threatening to sack the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, if the ruling All Progressives Congress failed to win the Abuja area council elections.

The clip, shared by Gboyega Akosile, spokesperson to Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, shows Tinubu recalling a meeting with Wike, during which the minister requested the removal of the FCT from the Treasury Single Account to access funds for capital projects.

Tinubu reportedly asked Wike whether the move would ensure APC victory, warning that failure to win would result in his dismissal.

The election, conducted on Saturday, February 21, saw the APC secure five of six area councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party claimed one. Wike is a member of the PDP.

Akosile described Tinubu as the “Nostradamus of Nigerian politics,” praising the president’s foresight and political strategy.

He noted that Tinubu’s statement, though appearing sarcastic, was a revelation of his ability to predict political outcomes.

Social media reactions reflected admiration for the political alliance between Tinubu and Wike.

Gbola Banky commented that the video clarified why Tinubu appointed Wike to the FCT ministerial role, calling it “premeditated.” Kajekamu added that Tinubu’s political acumen was “a course on its own that should be studied in tertiary schools.”

Tijani Hammed O hailed Tinubu’s strategy, saying, “One needs to study Asiwaju’s political school of thought to understand what African politics mean. All his decisions have long-term implications.” Meanwhile, Cee&See1stNews praised Wike for executing the president’s vision effectively in Abuja.
