Taraba PDP Crisis worsens as state leadership rejects faction-backed caretaker committee announced by party officials
The Taraba State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday rejected a 16-member caretaker committee announced by a faction of the party’s National Caretaker Working Committee, deepening the Taraba PDP Crisis.

The faction, reportedly led by Nyesom Wike, had earlier unveiled the committee to oversee the party’s affairs in the state for 30 days pending the election of a new executive.
The panel, chaired by Victor Falack, was said to have been constituted in accordance with the party’s constitution to stabilise internal structures.
However, the recognised state leadership swiftly dismissed the announcement. In a statement signed by Herbert Faith Bello, Media and Publicity Officer of the Taraba chapter, the committee was described as false, misleading and unauthorised.
The statement asserted that the announcement emanated from an unrecognised body with no constitutional standing within the party and accused those behind it of attempting to create confusion and unnecessary tension among members.
The state chapter reaffirmed that the party in Taraba remains duly constituted under Acting Chairman Comrade Chief Obidah Bitrus, insisting that the existing structure is intact and fully operational.

Party members and stakeholders said they are awaiting clarification from the national leadership to determine the legality and political implications of the competing claims, as the Taraba PDP Crisis threatens to further fracture the opposition’s structure in the state.
