The strategic meeting at the State House, Abuja, brought together APC national leadership, sub-national leaders, and the party caucus in the National Assembly.

Party leaders described the session as an opportunity to synchronise efforts across all arms of government and the party structure.

Speaking after the meeting, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda said the engagement was aimed at reviewing preparations for the convention and congresses and ensuring cohesion between the national, sub-national, and legislative arms of the party.

“It was just a brief meeting to review the preparations for the convention and the congresses and the synergy between all arms of government so that we can be on one page,” Yilwatda said.

He added that the party leadership also assessed the prevailing political environment and resolved to ensure that the process would be broad-based and inclusive, particularly given the influx of new members and governors into the APC.

“Same timetable, the same planning activities, but just to study the environment and review our preparation as a party and ensure inclusivity,” he said.

Yilwatda noted that the party was determined to carry all stakeholders along as it continues to expand.

“We have new members who have come in, new governors, new members, the party is expanding every day, we are growing beyond bounds. We want to ensure that in the course of this growth nobody is left behind,” he said.

Participants at the meeting included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum Governor Abdurahman AbdulRazaq, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum Governor Hope Uzodinma, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, House Majority Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, Chief Whip Usman Bello Kumo, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Bashiru.

On President Tinubu’s role, Yilwatda described him as a shrewd and experienced politician whose counsel was invaluable.

“The expansion, the growth, is because of his experience and his depth of knowledge in political cycle,” he added.

The APC has released its adjusted timetable for the 2026/2027 cycle, with ward congresses scheduled for February 18, local government congresses on February 20, state congresses on March 7, zonal congresses on March 21, and the National Convention set for March 27–28.
