President Bola Tinubu expressed deep sorrow and sympathy to the bereaved families and to the management and staff of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and United Bank for Africa (UBA), who suffered the brunt of the tragedy.
Among the deceased were four staff members of the FIRS, which occupies the sixth and seventh floors of the high-rise building.
The victims, having been evacuated during the fire, later succumbed to their injuries in various hospitals across Lagos State.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended his condolences to Afriland Properties Limited, FIRS, and UBA, as well as to those who are still receiving treatment.
“The President commends the emergency responders, including the Federal Fire Service, medical personnel, and members of the public, for their swift and selfless actions,” the statement noted.
Calling for heightened safety protocols, President Tinubu advised more vigilance, training, and preparedness to prevent similar incidents.
He concluded with prayers for the souls of the departed and a speedy recovery for the injured.
