Ex-Buhari Aide Onochie Claims Tinubu Not Interested in 2027 Election

Tinubu 2027 Election Interest questioned by Lauretta Onochie, who claims the president has not declared plans for a second term

Lauretta Onochie, a former media aide to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu has not shown interest in contesting the 2027 presidential election, urging Nigerians to verify any contrary claims with credible evidence.

Onochie made the remarks in a post on X, where she challenged anyone with proof of a public declaration by President Bola Tinubu regarding the Tinubu 2027 Election Interest to present such evidence, insisting that no such announcement has been made.

She stated that, based on available information, President Bola Tinubu has not indicated plans to seek a second term, adding that public narratives suggesting otherwise should be treated with caution until substantiated.

In her comments, Onochie also alleged that individuals aligned with the current administration are exerting pressure on political actors, including governors and opposition figures, to either align with their political bloc or refrain from participating actively in political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

She further claimed that such actions amount to intimidation and warned that they reflect an environment of political tension.

Her remarks included strong language describing what she termed coercive tactics by certain political actors, which she argued are driven by fear of electoral outcomes.

Onochie’s statements have added to ongoing political discourse surrounding the 2027 elections, particularly regarding early alignments, speculation about incumbents’ intentions, and the broader dynamics shaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
