The Peoples Democratic Party in Sokoto has expressed deep sorrow and anger over the latest assault by suspected terrorists on Kwalajiya village.

In a strongly worded statement on Friday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal, described the attack as barbaric and heartbreaking.

He confirmed that 15 innocent people lost their lives while seven others sustained serious injuries during the assault carried out by the Lakurawa gang earlier this week.

“The PDP Sokoto State Chapter is shocked and outraged by the recent Lakurawa terrorist attack on Kwalajiya village in Tangaza. Our hearts go out to the families of the 15 innocent lives lost and the seven others who sustained injuries,” Sanyinnawal said.

He called on security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to bring the perpetrators to justice.

According to him, the Sokoto PDP terrorist attack reflects a dangerous pattern of violence that the government must immediately address.

The party urged the Sokoto State Government to urgently deploy additional security personnel to the Tangaza axis to prevent further attacks and offer relief to affected residents.

They also requested that emergency support services be extended to those who were displaced or traumatised by the attack.

In a message of solidarity, the PDP reassured residents of Tangaza of its unwavering support during this period of mourning.

It emphasised that ensuring the safety of citizens must be prioritised above all political and economic concerns.

“We demand that the Federal Government rise to its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property. This latest attack is one too many,” the statement added.

The terrorist attack has again highlighted the growing insecurity across northern Nigeria.

The party warned that until decisive action is taken, bandits and terrorist elements will continue to terrorise communities and push rural populations further into despair.

Sanyinnawal stressed that the PDP stands firmly with all affected families and communities, urging both state and federal authorities to collaborate in securing lives and property.

“There must be a united front in tackling the scourge of terrorism and banditry across Nigeria,” he noted.

Local reports say survivors of the attack in Kwalajiya village are still grappling with fear and loss, as many residents have fled to neighbouring communities in search of safety.

Villagers have reportedly abandoned their farms and livestock, further escalating food insecurity in the region.

Despite repeated security operations in Sokoto and neighbouring states, the situation remains precarious, with attackers frequently targeting rural areas with little or no security presence.

Residents are now calling for not just a military response but a comprehensive security strategy that involves intelligence gathering, community policing, and increased support for local vigilance groups.

The Sokoto PDP terrorist attack reaction adds to the growing list of public outcries urging the Nigerian government to strengthen national security.

As of the time of this report, no arrests have been made, and security personnel are yet to issue an update on efforts to capture the culprits.
