Sokoto Fertiliser Subsidy 2025 Delivered as Governor Aliyu Unveils N5.3bn Input Boost for Farmers

Sokoto fertiliser subsidy 2025 sees N5.3bn spent on 105,800 bags of fertiliser for farmers, aiming to boost food security and promote mechanised farming

Sokoto fertiliser subsidy 2025 received a major boost on Wednesday as Governor Ahmed Aliyu flagged off the sale of 105,800 bags of subsidised fertilisers worth ₦5.3 billion to farmers across the state.

Speaking at the official launch held in Gwadabawa Local Government Area, Governor Aliyu said the programme was executed in collaboration with the 23 local government councils to strengthen food production and reduce poverty.

The subsidised fertilisers—NPK 20:10:10 and Urea—will be sold at ₦28,800 and ₦29,800 per bag respectively, representing a 40% discount from market prices.

As part of a broader agricultural intervention, the state also spent ₦60 million on 12,800 bags of improved seeds, such as millet, maize hybrid, rice (Faro 44), cowpea, and sorghum, and ₦36.65 million on herbicides and insecticides.

Governor Aliyu also announced a ₦22.1 billion contract for 250 Massey Ferguson tractors and future procurement of tiller machines to ease mechanisation for smallholder farmers.

He added that irrigation projects at Lugu Dam and Kware will be rehabilitated to support year-round farming.

Stressing accountability, the governor warned against diversion of inputs, directing security agencies to oversee distribution.

“This model ensures the inputs reach real farmers, unlike the flawed free distribution of the past,” he said.

Present at the ceremony were state dignitaries including former deputy governor Chiso Dattijo, Commissioner for Agriculture Muhammad Alkali, and traditional leaders.
