Labour Party coup allegation has triggered political tension as factional spokesman Abayomi Arabambi accuses Peter Obi, Joe Ajaero, and others of plotting against President Tinubu
Labour Party coup allegation has reignited internal turmoil, with factional spokesman Abayomi Arabambi accusing top leaders of plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration through a so-called “One Million Man March.”

In a controversial petition filed with security agencies, Arabambi named 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, NLC President Joe Ajaero, and Senator Victor Umeh as part of an alleged plan to reclaim the party’s former Abuja secretariat by force—calling it a “coup attempt in disguise.”
However, Nenadi Usman’s faction of the Labour Party swiftly condemned the claim as a malicious fabrication, intended to harass and frame opposition figures.
“The Labour Party coup allegation is not only false—it is reckless,” said Usman in a statement through her media aide, Ken Asogwa.
She clarified that the party had vacated the secretariat and relocated elsewhere after a Supreme Court ruling, making any talk of forceful takeover irrelevant.
Usman also accused the petitioners of trying to reintroduce “phantom coup plots,” reminiscent of Nigeria’s darker political past.
She revealed that some party officials were already being harassed by the DSS based on the unverified claims and called the petition a “poorly scripted political drama.”
