The Minister made the revelation on Thursday during a media chat with selected journalists in Abuja, describing the early earnings as a strong indicator of the facility’s economic potential.
The Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, previously underutilised, has seen a rapid financial turnaround since its renovation and relaunch.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned the refurbished centre on June 10, praising the FCTA’s efforts under Wike’s leadership.
The Centre was renamed in the President’s honour as the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Wike noted that the project was completed swiftly and to international standards.
“We are pleased to announce that within just three weeks of operations, the Tinubu Conference Centre Revenue has already reached ₦650 million,” the Minister said.
He added that the figures reflect growing interest in Abuja as a hub for international conferences and diplomatic events.
He credited the quick financial success to efficient project delivery and strategic planning.
“This is a revenue-generating facility. We didn’t just renovate it for the sake of it,” Wike stated.
“It is now a functional economic asset contributing significantly to the city’s internal revenue. We want to ensure that Abuja becomes self-sustaining and less dependent on federal allocations.”
According to him, the centre is now being booked for high-level meetings, global summits, and cultural gatherings.
Wike said this turnaround validates the administration’s infrastructure-driven growth model.
President Tinubu, during the commissioning, applauded Wike for his performance in the FCT and jokingly referred to him as “the Landlord of Abuja.”
The President noted that the Centre would serve as a symbol of Nigeria’s readiness to host world-class events.
We are pleased to announce that within just three weeks of operations, the Tinubu Conference Centre Revenue has already reached ₦650 million.
The original centre had fallen into disrepair over the years.
Wike’s decision to prioritise its renovation was part of a broader strategy to revitalise Abuja’s infrastructure and reposition the capital city on the global conference map.
The project was executed under a public-private partnership model, and the revenue generated so far suggests that the investment is yielding immediate returns.
Officials have confirmed that part of the earnings will go into maintenance and community development around the facility.
Wike insisted that every major project in the FCT must now pass a commercial viability test.
“Gone are the days when public buildings were constructed and left to rot,” he said. “We are changing the narrative. Every project must justify itself financially and socially.”
Citizens and civil society groups have praised the move as a step towards economic self-sufficiency for Abuja.
They see it as proof that government infrastructure, if properly managed, can become profitable and impactful.
Industry experts also hailed the achievement, calling it a model for other states to emulate. Abuja-based urban planner Tosin Ahmed described it as “a shining example of what happens when planning meets execution.”
Wike reiterated that the Tinubu Conference Centre Revenue will be transparently tracked and reinvested into development.
“This is not a one-off gain,” he said. “This is just the beginning of sustainable revenue generation for the FCT.”
