The announcement was made in a formal letter submitted to the Oyo State House of Assembly and read on the floor of the House during plenary on Tuesday by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.

Governor Makinde’s leave and transfer of duties are in compliance with Section 190(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which requires a sitting governor to notify the state legislature before proceeding on leave or vacation.

“I hereby transmit that during the period indicated above, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, shall serve as Acting Governor. I shall resume duty upon my return from vacation on Monday, 29th September 2025,” the letter read.

Speaker Ogundoyin, after reading the letter, assured the House’s readiness to support the seamless transition of power, reaffirming the legislature’s commitment to constitutional order and governance continuity during the governor’s temporary absence.

“We acknowledge the Governor’s letter and affirm the House’s full support for this transition,” the Speaker stated.

With the governor’s leave beginning on August 29 and ending on September 29, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal is set to take charge of Oyo State’s affairs for exactly one month.
